I am quoting health coverage in Kansas for my family since we do not get this from an employer. My agent suggested that each family member have a separate insurance plan instead of one family plan to cut costs. I have never heard of doing this? Any comments or suggestions? Thanks

(a) can my work fire me or lay me off?
(b) if so, can the insurance plan drop me and cut off benefits?
(c) if so, I know there is COBRA to last me a few months… but then what? Does the government help out or do I just go completely broke taking care of myself?
(d) what is the government’s definition of “broke enough to be covered by Medicaid”?
(e) if I were on an individual plan, the insurance company would have to continue covering me so long as I continued paying, right?
(f) if so, doesn’t that mean I’m better off with an individual plan than a business health plan (assuming similar benefits and rates)?

I have to buy my own insurance, but even the best individual insurance is crappy and I wanted to now if people ever buy two insurance plans? The insurance i have now only lets me see the doctor twice a year. If I got another insurance plan would it pick up where the other left off?

We have found some, but hardly any include maternity benefits, and we want that parachute just in case any “accidents” happen.
