is it possible to get health insurance on the mainland as we would have to cancel our current carrier who only writes in Hawaii. For those who reside in Hawaii there is a HMSA 65C plus plan for those individuals who had a HMSA health insurance plan while working, but once they retire they can switch to their 65C Plus Plan. It’s like a supplemental insurance to go along with your Part A and B. But you only get that if you have had insurance with them prior to retirement and then you transfer it over to their supplemental plan after you start collecting social security. I know in Oregon Providence Health Care has something similar, but again I belive only for those people who had insurance with Providence Health Care prior to retiring. Any suggestions?
We are thinking of retiring on the mainland because there are simply more choices…more places to go with more variety. There is nothing wrong with Hawaii; however, you live on a rock and can’t just get in your car and drive to a different state. Some call is “rock fever”. I love the weather and that’s the one thing that may keep us here.

It might seem like an odd question, but I really don’t know. Growing up, my family was rather poor and money was always a major obstacle. [Only my dad worked: 40 hours X $10/hr isn't much for a family of 5].

We never had individual health insurance, regular checkups, or anything of that nature. I only went to a doctor twice in my life, once at 8 & again at 10 yrs -both for no major reason.

Anyway, I’m now 20 years old (in good health – I think), just graduated from college, and I’m about to start working at a large financial firm. Needless to say, I will have more than enough money to afford Health insurance and all the other necessities. But how exactly do I go about attaining this?

Do I inquire at my work place to see if they have some type of employee health plan? Do I go to an independent insurance company? Any good Ones?

Once I have that covered, do I simply walk/call into the hospital and request a physical/check-up or etc? Will I have a personal Physician/Doctor?
Also how much does Health insurance cover? Is it a certain percent %?

Links would be Great.

Say if the waiting period is 10 months and you conceive 4 months from the start of maternity rider. Does this mean that the insurance company will foot the bill for delivery but not the pre-natal care , ultrasounds etc ? If you are a part of an employer’s group plan with maternity benefits/maternity rider, does this waiting period work differently?

My husband has high cholesterol (he is only 32) but it is hereditary. He eats right and exercises but is not currently on meds to lower his cholesterol. Neither of our employers offer health insurance. He was recently denied coverage due to no current treatment for the high cholesterol. Does anyone know of a company that would cover him with a pre-existing condition and with already being denied by one company? We live in Florida. He will be starting cholesterol lowering meds soon. We really don’t want a discount plan. I am not so concerned with drug coverage for him because we get the cheap Wal-Mart prescriptions, just major medical coverage. Any suggestions are welcome!

We are trying to select health insurance for 2008. Both mine and my wife’s employers offer health insurance. We are planning to take individual health insurances from our respective employers due to coverage and cost.

We are planning to try IUI /IVF in next few months. Are these covered under mine or my wife health insurance? My wife’s health insurance offers better coverage for IUI/IVF and is also more expensive. Are there any issues if we go for individual health insurance?

Thanks
Dave

As I read more and more about companies either laying off or no longer providing health insurance, I wonder how it’s possible to be able to have a baby and receive prenatal care if you don’t have health insurance and make too much to have medicaid.

What options are there out there for pregnancy, is there any individual health care plans for moms to be that aren’t too expensive?
