I’m thinking of retiring early. I would utilize COBRA for the full 18 months. After that, I would purchase an individual plan. I’m extremely healthy, no preexisting conditions. My concern is, if I were to become ill after purchasing the individual policy, could I be dropped? I would, of course, make sure payments are always on time. I live in California. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

…as a business expense? Or can he/she purchase an individual plan and have it paid for by the business…like a health insurance voucher or something?

That will cover you even if you are eligible for insurance through an employer? I can get it through my employer but the cost is absolutely outrageous. All the individual plans I have looked at say you cannot be eligible for benefits through your employer in order to be eligible for their plans. I just basically need coverage in case something happens, i’m a healthy 24 year old. I’m in Michigan BTW.

I am quitting my job in a couple of weeks to start my own business. I am shopping around for individual health insurance plans and have found a couple that will suit my needs. The problem is that the plans are both Anthem (Blue Cross California) and that is the same insurance that my employer carries. I’m worried that contacting Anthem to start the process of getting coverage will alert my employer that I am leaving. Should I be concerned?

My employer is changing health insurance and the rates have gone up and the plan itself has less options. They are changing to HMO. I do not want HMO and for more $. What is the best way to shop for individual health insurance?

We are a family of 4. I am at level 2 because of my weight, but all is well with all of our health. I am 32, husband is 29, kids are 3yrs and 8 months. Currently we pay $798.00 a month for top of the line health coverage from Anthem Blue Cross. It is a PPO. We’d REALLY like to get a plan that’s much cheaper, but has both maternity and prescription coverage. We live in VA. What plan do y’all have? Is it good? Is it expensive?
