How to get Individual Health Insurance through HIPAA law?
Okay, I need to get rid of my employers insurance and buy local individual insurance. This is because my child has been diagnosed with Autism, and my employer’s self-insured plan is not bound by an Indiana law that requires Indiana-based health insurance policies to cover autism therapy. My current plan won’t cover it, but any local individual insurer would have to.
No individual insurance carrier is going to give me insurance unless HIPAA forces them to.
The way I understand it, if I quit, I am offered COBRA, and HIPAA doesn’t force individual carriers to offer insurance until COBRA is exhausted.
However, if I am discharged for gross misconduct, I am not eligible for COBRA. Would that make me qualify for individual coverage through HIPAA?
If so, what could I do that would be considered ‘gross misconduct’ without being bad enough for them to sue me civilly or press charges in criminal court?
In answer to answer #1: HIPAA is the Health Insurance PORTABILITY and Accountability Act.

Does anyone have the Blue Saver Health Plan from Blue Cross/Blue Shield?

I’m trying to find an individual health insurance plan that is affordable and is still worth paying for. I have weight issues and would like to be able to explore some surgical options. Thanks for your answers.

What health insurance plan to choose (I am student)?
Filed Under Individual-Health-Insurance-Plans | Comments Off
Hi. I am full-time student who goes to major university at Chicago (DEPAUL). Should I get Aetna IL Preventitive and Hospitalization plan for $48 per month ($1250 deductible, coin 20%, coin max $2500) or IL 5000 ($5000 deductible, but has copays for doctors and specialist before deductible for $49 per month, same coin and coin max). Or should I get BCBSIL for $43 per m ($2500 deductible, 20%, but only $1000 out-of packet max).
I am with no health insurance- I only have health plan provided by my school ($80 per quarter) that covers the visit to internal medicine doctor. My parents don’t have insurance. I am currently 19 and work part-time (little dangerous job as I work at stockroom with heavy lifts sometimes). My school provides health insurance from Aetna, but it’s too expensive comparing its premium and benefits to individual plans based where I live, not where I go to school, and I live in suburbs where premiums are much cheaper. I already have from Aetna provided by my school
cheap vision dental discount plan (vital savings by aetna) for only $29 per YEAR. I enjoy this. I can also have prespription for only $25 per year, but I really don’t need this.
Oh and my school, health plan doesn;t cover specialist only internal medicine, one clinic which has agreement with my school.
I don’t go much to doctor, expect that I would go sometimes to make my complete physical and eventually go to see mental doctor. I have sometimes headaches and often I am anxious. But I have good grades at school and do good at job.
But the way what do u know about Medicaid. Is it worth. I had this until I turned 19, but once I went to private clinic, Alexian Brothers which does not accept it. And I have heard it is very limited. But anyway could I apply for it on my own, or would I have to apply with my family (salaries, living expenses, etc).?

Looking for individual/family health insurance in Arizona?
I am a stay-at-home mom (in Arizona) and I need to get health insurance. My boyfriend (and our toddler) have insurance through his employer but it’s like $400/month for just the two of them and it doesn’t cover much. To add me to his plan we would have to get married first and it would be over $200/month more than he’s already paying now. So that’s over $600/month for insurance that doesn’t cover much. It doesn’t seem like a very good deal at all.
So I’m looking for a health insurance plan that would take all three of us as an unmarried family, for less than $600/month. So far I don’t see any that cover maternity, and we do want to have another child within the next year or two… We don’t get sick often, but our baby needs her regular checkups and vaccinations, we need our regular checkups, vision and dental, and of course catastrophic coverage in the event something really bad were to happen.
I don’t see much purpose in me having insurance for myself, a young woman, that doesn’t cover maternity or birth control, other than for the sake of catastrophic coverage. But if need be I could get my own insurance plan for maternity/birth control/whatever if I could find an affordable one, and they can be on their own plan that doesn’t cover maternity.
Blue Cross Blue Shield has some cheap rates but they don’t cover maternity. Neither does Aetna. Cinergy is too expensive for just me, let alone my family too.
So my question(s) to you specifically are:
Can you suggest any health insurance companies that cover maternity?
Can you suggest any that are affordable?
Can you suggest any that would insure us as a family even though we are unwed?

Deductible v. out-of-pocket maximum? Health insurance help?
I’m trying to pick a good health insurance individual plan for while I’m between jobs. I would like a low monthly premium, so I’m looking at pretty high deductibles. I’m thinking of a $5000 deductible, but that plan says it has a $3000 out-of-pocket maximum. How does that work? It that AFTER the deductible is met?
I’m also looking at another that is a $3000 deductible with higher coinsurance, but lower premium. I basically use preventative care, but am good on all my check ups until next year, so might not even use those while I have this insurance, because obviously I hope to be covered by an employer before then, but I want to be prepared for any emergencies.
I don’t want to pick a plan just based on how much I want to pay per month, but there are too many options! Any guidance on selecting a plan is greatly appreciated!

What do you do about health insurance if you’re moving out of state?
Cobra would be kinda pointless because it only covers us in the state that we live in and I’ve heard that a lot of individual health plans have to be used for a certain number of months before you can cancel it. What do you do for that first three months in a new state while your waiting for employee benefits to kick in?

I can’t get covered doing an individual plan. How can I get a GROUP health insurance?
I have a pre-existing and no insurance company (called them all) will take me. The ONLY way I can get insurance is through my wife’s work which costs an arm and a leg. Are there any groups that I can get in on? Like, if I join an association or something? Any advice? Thanks. I’m desperate here.
