Currently no health insurance, any other way to have a baby safely?
Reinventingmyself asked:
As I read more and more about companies either laying off or no longer providing health insurance, I wonder how it’s possible to be able to have a baby and receive prenatal care if you don’t have health insurance and make too much to have medicaid.

What options are there out there for pregnancy, is there any individual health care plans for moms to be that aren’t too expensive?

I am not American so Im not that knowledgeable when it comes to your health care. I do have a lot of American friends that are going through what your post describes. A lot of them were able to use “cobra” insurance when they were done their jobs. Im told that it can be quite expensive, but Im sure it would be a lot less then paying the full medical bill of having a baby. Im glad I don’t have to worry about insurance and things like that when it comes to having babies. It must be extremely stressful, and I feel for anyone that has to go through that.
Find out the number of your local county health department. Call and say you want to find out about the WIC (Women, Infant, Children) program. All health departments have such program, they will give you prenatal care plus vouchers for nutritious food. And they can advise about where to go to have the baby born. The prenatal care will be either free or on a sliding scale basis which won’t cost you much.
Please check it out. I worked for this program and I know.
The state of california when got pregnant had no health insurance and became eligible to your county social service office because they will have referrals to places that will help you try looking at blue.
There are a few free government resources here if you want to go through it
